Sad days are coming

Merlin has a lump, I can't believe I didn't spot it before, it's right in his chest area and quite obvious when he stands up. I hate the thought of watching it grow until it brings the end of his life. He's far to beautiful for the indignity. Bo is now two and a half, he's slowed down a lot and having troubles with his back legs, he always looks so happy to see me and is doing remarkably well for his age, but probably won't be with us for much longer, also his brother Jimi who is now over two as well. I hate that their little lives are so short.

Feldman is settling in and giving us lot of laughs, his favourite time of the day is when he comes out to play and he's found it's great fun to go hiding down under the bedclothes or in between the pillows. As soon as we try to catch him he darts away and actually screamed at David yesterday when he tried to pick him up. He's discovered how delicious pasta with pesto is and we've been giving him some peanuts in the shell as he's so young and in need of more protein than the older guys.

Looking forward to Friday when his two week quarantine will be up and he can come downstairs and meet the clan!

The weather feels like its on the turn, it's actually warm enough to sit out in our front porch when the sun's out, I can't wait for the snow to go and to be able to get out into the garden!

Yes, it looks like Spring is right around the corner! Posted by Hello

Spring is just around the corner. . .

We're expecting up to 25cm of snow today and through until tomorrow. It's pretty windy out there with a nasty little chill. Typical March weather I guess, hopefully this will be the last big snowfall of the season, the thaw has to come soon.

Likes and Dislikes

So far Feldman is trying to prove he's not a baby, he's turned his nose up the pablum and prefers instead hard crunchy things and frozen peas. It's fun to watch the way they scoop out the insides of these and leave the shells intact with just a small hole in them.

Last night he was out on the bed and determined to get up to the pillows and dive down under, I don't know how many times I hauled him out from between the pillows and the headboard, he really looked as if he thought it was a great game. The more I placed him back near his cage the quicker his dash for the pillows became.

We don't know his full story, I was told he turned up at the shelter with other rats in a garbage bag and that he was found abandoned in an apartment. Either way he's lucky to have made it this far, the other rats that were with him were biting and I think they've all been euthanised. For some reason Feldman has made it this far, someone or something was looking out for him!

Baby Feldman Posted by Hello

This is new and so is Feldman

It's Sunday afternoon and I thought I would give this a try. However it's hard when I have a baby rat sleeping in my sleeve.

Introducing Feldman who joined the family on Friday from the Ottawa Humane Society.
